In today’s episode, we explore the relationship between addiction and the highly sensitive person. Drawing on Marina’s journey and path of recovery and her training in compassionate inquiry with Dr Gabor Mate, we explore the definition of addiction outside of the mainstream medical model, and the subtle ways addiction can show up in our lives.
We also discuss the 8-step recovery program, co-founded by Dr, Valerie Mason-John and Dr Paramabandhu Groves which uses Buddhist teachings to overcome addiction and which Marina is also trained in.
Finally, we explore and share our relationship with the wounded healer, and how it is our own wounds, trauma and challenges that propelled us on our healing path, and which eventually led us to coach, counsel and guide others on their journey of healing, recovery and transformation.
Marina specializes in alternative approaches to health, spirituality, and life in general. Originally from Yugoslavia, Marina has a BA in Psychology from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, and her MA in Communications is from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu. She trained in conflict resolution and mediation, yoga and meditation, and Ayurveda. She is a certified Mindfulness-Based Addiction Recovery coach and currently teaches this 8-week course online. Marina is also a certified practitioner of the Compassionate Inquiry approach, developed by Dr Gabor Mate. Her work is closely connected to her personal path of recovery from addiction.

Jules De Vitto is a Transpersonal Coach who helps Highly Sensitive People navigate anxiety, stress, step into their authentic power and align with their true purpose in life. She lived in Asia for eleven years before moving to London and integrates Eastern practices and modern-day mindfulness into her work.
